Kep ootby
Frae the blak car’s comin,
Ooty sicht
In the shedda’d, shiltry nyuck,
The sheugh’s enless
Stroan birlin the watter-wheel,
Birlin
Wae nae soon, or
Whuspered soon,
Hunkerin watchin.
The owl yin, bak oot, blak
In the dorr, watchin
The car, quait-blak in the lane, awa
Bae the toon road:
‘Nixt tae the postman’, keechlin,
Rubbin hir hails
In the mirly cloot:
‘Anither wee paircel’; an awa
In, pushin the dorr tae.
The ha’s, plappin rid as blid
Inty the babbin, blirry swurl
O bubbles, gaen whurlin
Roon an roon,
Bak an fort,
Tae, catched
Wae the hurry o rinnin watter,
They wur cairried awa
Tae anither worl.
