Commentary by Jack Adams

This song was found inside an old Bible that belonged to Jeremiah Meneelly (above), one of the four young men who were used of God as leaders in the “1859 Revival”.
It started in Kells, Co. Antrim, and swept throughout many places in Ireland and further afield. The Bible was borrowed from Jeremiah’s grandson in 1959 and formed part of a display that was put on in conjunction with the “Centenary Crusade”, a mission that was held in Ballymena Town Hall.
(Tune: There’ll be No Dark Valley When Jesus Comes)
There’s a gran time cummin, o brither dear,
There’s a gran time cummin — be of good cheer.
There’s a gran time cummin, ’tis drawn near,
When Jesus’ll tak us hame.
There’ll be nae mair sickness, an nae mair pains.
There’ll be nae mair sorrows whaur Jesus reigns.
There’ll be nae mair pairtins wi freends again
When Jesus’ll tak us hame.
There’ll be nae backslidin nor cross tae bear.
There’ll be nae divisions nor discord there.
There’ll be nae mair grumblin an nae mair care
When Jesus’ll tak us hame.
There’ll be nae nicht yonder, nae days nor years.
There’ll be nae mair dootins an nae mair fears.
There’ll be nae mair sighin an nae mair tears
When Jesus’ll tak us hame.
There’ll be nae mair deathbeds nor foe tae brave.
There’ll be nae mair coffins an nae caul grave.
There’ll be nae dark valley, nor Jordan’s wave,
When Jesus’ll tak us hame.
There’ll be one great company in white array
An a splendid waddin an supper tae
Wae the bride an the Bridegroom, on that great day
When Jesus’ll tak us hame.
There’ll be sweet reunions at hame, I’m shair.
There’ll be joyful greetins wi loved ones there.
There’ll be happy meetins, tae pairt nae mair,
When Jesus’ll tak us hame.
Now you dear unsaved ones the warnin mind,
For the Bible tells you, an there you’ll find
That the unconverted are left behind
When Jesus’ll tak us hame.
